Lesson
A2ENThe Weekend Nobody Believed
Practise the past simple — regular and irregular verbs, negatives and questions — through a weekend story that sounds too good to be true. Tom met a famous singer at the market, but nobody believed him. Then play a Monday-morning office game: one colleague's weekend photos are fake — ask the right questions and catch them. A practical A2 English lesson on the past simple, time expressions and telling stories. Ideal for adult learners, English tutors, and language schools.

Content Block. Nobody Believed Him
Content Block
On Monday, Tom told his colleagues about his weekend. Nobody believed him. "On Saturday morning I went to the market to buy some vegetables. A woman asked me for directions. She looked very familiar, but I didn't know why. I walked with her to the station, and we talked about films and music. Before she left, she gave me two tickets for a concert that evening. In the evening I went to the concert with my sister. And guess what? The woman was the singer! She saw me in the audience, smiled and said: 'This song is for my friend from the market!' My sister cried. On Sunday I stayed at home and did nothing. I was too happy to do anything!" His colleagues laughed. "Sure, Tom. And did you have dinner with the president too?" But on Tuesday, Tom's sister posted a video from the concert online. It got two million views.

Speaking Challenge. Two Truths and a Lie
Speaking Challenge
A time appears on the screen. Tell your partner 3 things you did at that time — 2 true and 1 false. Your partner asks follow-up questions with "did": Where did you...? Who did you... with? Did you...? Then your partner guesses which one is the lie. Example: "Last summer I went to Spain. I learned to surf. I met a famous footballer."
Hidden Role. Monday Morning: Whose Weekend Is Fake?
Hidden Role
Scenario
It's Monday morning at the office. Everyone is telling their weekend stories over coffee. But your manager whispers: "One person's weekend photos on Instagram are fake — they found them on the internet! They didn't leave home all weekend." Round 1: Everyone tells their weekend story: Saturday, Saturday evening and Sunday. Round 2: Ask each other questions. Real stories have real details — a fake story doesn't. At the end, everyone votes: whose weekend is fake?
Lena

Secret goal: Your secret clue: on Saturday afternoon you were in the city centre, and it rained all afternoon — you got very wet! Ask everyone about the weather on Saturday.
Dan
You love sport. On Saturday afternoon you played football with friends — in the rain! You were very dirty. On Sunday you wanted to eat at the new restaurant Pizza Roma.
Secret goal: Your secret clue: on Sunday you went to Pizza Roma, but it was closed all day — there was a sign: "Closed on Sunday". You went home and made pasta. Ask everyone what they ate on Sunday.
Max
SpyYou tell everyone you had an amazing weekend.
Secret goal: You didn't leave home all weekend — you slept and played video games! Your fake story: on Saturday afternoon you had a picnic in the park, it was sunny and hot, and you swam in the lake. In the evening you went to the Blue Lights concert and danced until midnight. On Sunday you had lunch at Pizza Roma — the best pizza in town! Tell your story with confidence. Your strategy: attack first! Say Lena is the fake: "The museum is closed on Saturdays!"
Must use: Use language: I went... / I saw... / I had... / It was... / We didn't...
Olga
On Saturday morning you visited your grandmother in the village. In the evening you went to the Blue Lights concert with your sister. On Sunday you slept until noon.
